WHY WE DON'T RATE TEQUILAS REVIEWED

Taste Is Subjective

  • Genetic differences affect how people perceive bitterness, sweetness, and aroma. For example, sensitivity to compounds like isoamyl acetate or TAS2R38 bitter receptors can dramatically shape someone’s experience.
  • Cultural and environmental influences—what someone grew up eating, drinking, and celebrating—shape their preferences. A tequila that evokes nostalgia for one person might taste harsh to another.

Tequila Is Multifaceted

  • Tequila isn’t just about flavor—it’s about terroir, process, tradition, and intention. A blanco from Arandas will express itself differently than one from El Arenal, even if both are additive-free.
  • Scoring risks flattening that nuance into a single number, which can mislead consumers into thinking one is “better” than another when it’s really just different.

Scores Imply Objectivity

  • A numerical score suggests a universal truth, but tequila appreciation is more like storytelling than science. It’s about how a spirit speaks to you—through aroma, texture, finish, and even the ethos of the brand.
  • Instead of ranking, descriptive reviews invite exploration. They empower drinkers to find what resonates with their palate, not chase someone else’s top pick.

Community Over Competition

  •  Real Tequila emphasizes education, transparency, and advocacy. By avoiding scores, we foster a culture of curiosity and dialogue—not judgment.
  • It also helps elevate lesser-known brands that may not fit conventional flavor expectations but offer authenticity and craftsmanship.
